Video Trimming UI
Goal
Video editing is tough. Asking a casual user to perform even basic editing tasks tends to overwhelm them. This prototype was designed to find the most approachable method for trimming content within a web app.
The process
Design
The original design was stripped of any elements that might be unnecessary It ended up having controls for setting the start and stop points, basic playback controls, and a ‘commit’ button.
Development
I built the prototype using plain JavaScript. Because there was a chance the prototype could go straight to production, I didn’t want to add a dependency like jQuery.
The project was managed with Git/GitHub. Creating a branch for each version made it really easy to manage.
Testing
A/B testing was used to test the best performing versions against each other.
Results
After a couple rounds of testing, we had a very well-performing interface, with a marjority of users experiencing success.
